The distinguishing feature of Perepedil carpets is their unmistakeable, precisely drawn repeat of vurma motifs, star-shaped blossoms, four-legged animals and a wealth of smaller designs, which required a very fine weave for a proper representation. Due to the high proportion of white used here, it stands out strikingly and in razor-sharp detail from the blue-black ground of the field. Four borders presenting minutely drawn designs typical of the provenance provide the surround. – Good condition, original finishes all around.Size 140 x 200 cm

Literature: RIPPON BOSWELL, A 97, Zaleski Collection, 30/11/2019, lot 149 | Middle of 19th Century Caucasian Chondzoresk, cloudband Kazak Rug This three-medallion Chondzoresk, or cloudband Kazak, is particularly striking for three reasons. The first is the bright and strong colours, perhaps best demonstrated in the vibrant yellow in the border, and the strong contrast between the white, red, and green used throughout the field. The fact that the pile remains nearly at its original height also allows the colours to glow and create the high contrast that would have been an integral part of the weaver's intended effect. The second idiosyncratic characteristic is the abundance of small tribal and totemic motifs scattered throughout the field, particularly the numerous herds of free-roaming animals and birds. The final feature is the unusual way in which the green ground at the ends of the rug has been incorporated into the overall medallion design, in fact, connecting the top and bottom of the rug via the outline that runs along all three medallions.Very good condition full pile all original untouched Size 124 x 244 cm Stock No:1498 |
